Tipping is rare in the Maldives. It is strictly forbidden in the airport and discouraged in restaurants and the hotels because an additional 10% service charge is added to the bill. Waiters and taxi drivers are not tipped. Taxi fare is fixed at MRF20 (US$1.6) no matter how far you travel.
